Perhaps you’ve heard of copywriters’ high incomes, and you’d like a profitable career too. If you delight in words, and creativity, copywriting may be just the field for you.

I’ve been copywriting for businesses for over 30 years. I started my career by writing for business acquaintances, who passed my name around. Although I do many other forms of writing, copywriting is the most enjoyable, and it’s a skill which is always in high demand.

What’s copywriting, you question? It’s making marketing and other communications for business. Reflect of it as sales work.

First of all, you need to be passionate about communicating. You’ll do a lot of it so the more you like it, and the more enjoyable you find it, the better you will be.

A new copywriter should also be willing to hone his or her skills to be the best they can be. You’ll do that by writing your own marketing materials. Once you’ve made your own persuasive materials, you can make them for other people’s offerings too.

Please notice that I said “do YOUR skills.” Especially online, there’s a huge tendency to turn out cookie-cutter copy. While modeling your copy on what’s worked in the past will show you structure, it’s fatal to use this as a blueprint for writing copy.

When you’re just starting out, you have an advantage over an customary copywriter. Many clients prefer to work with someone new for a link of reasons.

For one thing, you can give your full attention to your client precisely because you don’t a lot of clients to attend to. More successful copywriters have to schedule their clients months in development. That’s frustrating for the client, no matter how much they like the copywriter.

Money talks too: New copywriters charge less than more experienced copywriters. Low prices can sometime equal low quality, but financially challenged clients appreciate the chance to save a buck by using new talent.

Your tariff will be less than an experienced copywriter because you’re new. Use these opportunities to collect samples for your portfolio. These portfolio items will impress better paying potential clients later on down the road.

Therefore, don’t be shy about admitting that you’re new – people will be glad to hire you, for precisely that reason. Go ahead and advertise yourself as a new copywriter.

Imagine starting your own successful copywriting business with help from top copywriter Angela Booth. You’ll soon be taking on clients, and will build a fantastic new career as a professional copywriter.
