If it was a perfect world, there would be lots of discretionary income laying around for people to spend to their heart’s desire, as well as save it. There would be no layoffs and overextended credit.

As much as we would like it to be, but, its not a perfect world. You can lose your job or your spouse/partner can lose theirs. Layoffs are not much better, with the hope of returning to work later in the year. Its promising, but still causes us to become late in paying, fall behind, or not be able to make payments to our creditors at all.

Terrible credit inhibits your credit growth and determines your credit future. Experian Credit Bureau is one of the three major creadit bureaus that will judge your future by placing a black mark on your credit report.

But what happens if your credit report from Experian lists the incorrect information about you and your credit history? What if you are a victim of identity theft and have not made the credit nightmare that is now your life? You do have options and there are things you can do.

First, you can challenge what is reported on your credit report. Write a debt valuation letter to Experian, which consists of several key points. If you have more than one dispute, don’t place it all in one letter. Space your letters over a period of time so they are not inundated with requests.

Make sure you send the letter certified with return receipt requested. Make a copy of your letter and any other correspondence you have with them. Your letter should request the subsequent: the full amount of the debt, and when was it due. What is the date this debt was incurred and any contract information concerning the payment arrangements. You may not be responsible for the debt.

Alert Experian to the fact that if the debt is in fact not yours, they are violating your rights under the Honest Credit Exposure Act, which is legislation enacted to protect you.

Keep trying even if you do not get an immediate response. Experian is relying on your apt frustrated and going away. Don’t give up.

Clean up your credit history and make a better financial future. If the debt is truly yours, you have to pay it.
