Most of us have at some time or other given the thought of writing our memoirs at least a fleeting thought. But for the majority of us that is where it stayed. How to write memoirs is not a subject taught at school, so we just don’t know where to start.

Very often people would feel that their lives have simply not been fascinating enough. They were born. They went to school. They went to university. Then they found work, met someone, got married and had kids. And suddenly one day retirement was there. And a small later their life partner died. Looking back everything seems so terribly bland. The same tale as that of billions of other people..

But perhaps that is exactly why your life experiences could mean something to someone else. Your struggle with a particular disease, the way you coped with it, could help someone else who has to cope with it right now. The way you dealt with the loss of a loved one, or didn’t, could perhaps shed some light on coping with their own loss for another person in some far away place..

With the Start of the Internet it has all become so terribly simple. No longer do you have to run around begging someone to publish the memoirs that you spent five years writing. You can now publish it yourself on numerous Internet websites.

You don’t have to do it for other people either. If you are honest in writing down your experiences it can be a very therapeutic experience. You will gain a perspective on your own actions of the past that is hard to gain in any other way. You will learn to know why you sometimes did the incorrect thing at the incorrect time. You will learn to let go of guilt that you might have carried for many years…

Do a web search on how to write memoirs. You will get a lot of valuable tips that will help you to get started very quickly. Then simply be honest with yourself. Write about things as they really happened… Not the way you perhaps always told yourself and others they did.
